We’re reclaiming our local streets as spaces for play.
We have just started a new project testing the ‘Play Streets’ model within Claremont.
We are working closely with Blackpool Council to refine the process for closing roads and are currently out discussing possible locations with local people.
Play Streets are neighbour-led short road closures, creating a safe space for children to play freely together on their doorstep.
Play streets allow children to play freely, without organised games or activities. In practice, this means children cycle, scoot, skate, chalk, skip, hopscotch, kick a ball around and make up games.
Our aim is to set up and test the first ‘Play Street’ sessions, refine the process with Blackpool Council and support local people to develop their own sessions with support and training.
You can find out more about the Play Streets model here.
